All students need to have their own hand tools, glass cutter, breaking tools, etc. We have individual tools for sale or rental kits available.

Class Schedule

To register for classes please come into the Turquoise room on Monday and Thursday mornings, Our website does not currently allow online registration. Thank you for understanding!

Paying your fee holds your place in class. Maximum of 8 per class. 

Samples of projects are on display in the front window of the Turquoise room and pictures are also on the website.

March 2024

Mondays

3/4 – Open Studio – A
9 am – 12 noon

Open studio with an A means education/fusing team members are in attendance for help with projects, access to the kiln room and purchasing from the supply closet.

3/11 – Slurry Bowl – Fusing
9 am – 12 noon – Level 2 – $50
On an 8” square clear base, make a slurry with 3 or 4 powder frit colors. Apply to the base and swirl them into amazing combinations. Fused flat, then slumped into the Cyclone mold.

3/18 & 25 – 3-D Flower – Fusing
9 am – 12 noon – Level 3 – $65
Make one 3-D flower and 2 leaves. Fused flat then slumped on a mold. Once fused, assemble on a copper stem. Display in your vase.

March 2024

Thursdays

3/7 – Basic Fusing
9 am – 1 pm – Level 1 – $55

Beginners get started with introduction to fusing information, glass cutting, etc. On a 6” square clear base, decorate with assorted glass colors, frit, etc. Fuse flat, then slump or drape to make a votive or candy dish.

3/14 & 21 – 3-D Prickly Pear – Foil – NEW!
9 am – 12 noon – Level 3 – $30
Construct a 3-D prickly pear using your glass. First class includes pattern preparation, cutting and grinding. You will have homework to foil
and tin your pieces. Second class will be building the cactus. Display in your pot with a minimum opening of 4 ½” diameter. This will accompany the    3-D Agave and Barrel cactus.

3/28 – Wind Chime – Fusing – NEW!
9 am – 12 noon – Level 2 – $60
Decorate a 3” x 6” base and 5 dangles with hooks. Fused flat. Monday 4/1 – assemble your chime, embellish with beads, etc.

April 2024

Mondays

4/1 – Wind Chime Assembly

Assemble fused wind chime from 3/28 class.

4/8 & 15 – Basic Mosaic
9 am – 12 noon – Level 1 – $25
Introduction to mosaic. Mosaic a design of your choice on your flat surface such as a tray, plate, small table top, etc. Be creative using glass,
tiles, nuggets, shells, jewelry, etc. Class covers surface preparation, adhesives, grouting and sealants. Glass scraps and grout provided.

4/22 – Garden Buddies – Fusing
9 am – 12 noon – Level 2 – $45
Make up to 3 buddies [as time allows]. Choose birds, bugs, flora, critters, etc. designs, approximately 3” x 4” each. Attach to old silverware or skewers provided. Fused flat.

4/29 – Abstract Plate – Fusing
9 am – 12 noon – Level 2 – $50
Design an 8” square clear base in colors of your choice. Fused flat, then slumped in a mold.

April 2024

Thursdays

4/4 – Basic Fusing

Make a candle house using a PVC pipe. A taste of Tiffany style lamp mold construction. The second class is in 2 weeks to allow extra time to cut and foil many pieces. Pattern, PVC mold and tacky wax provided.

4/25 – Wildflower Plate or Plaque – Fusing
9 am – 12 noon – Level 2 – $55
Create a field of wildflowers on your choice of an 8” square plate or a 6” x 10” plaque pre-fused blue and green base. Using assorted colors of glass scraps, frit, stringers, noodles and vitrograph. Fused flat. The 8” square will be slumped in a mold. The 6” x 10” will remain flat to display on your stand.

Fusing Classes

Class fees for the Fusing classes include glass, supplies and firing fees.

Level 1

Level 1 classes are for any beginner. No experience is necessary.

Basic – Level 1

Beginners get started with introduction to fusing information, glass cutting, etc. On a 4”x 8” clear base, decorate with assorted glass colors, frit, etc. Patterns provided, or design your own. Fuse flat.

Level 2

Level 2 classes require the Basic Level 1 class in the same category prior to registering.

Welcome Back To Fusing – Level 2

For returning fusers. Review fusing information, glass cutting, etc. On a 7” square base, cut strips of assorted colored glass and decorate with frit, etc. Fuse flat, then slump into a mold.

Votive/Candy Dish – Level 2

Create a 6” square clear base using assorted colors of glass and frit.  Fuse flat and slump or drape to make a candy dish or votive.

 

Night Lights – Fusing – Level 2 
On an auto sensor night light, design a 3” x 3” clear or light colored base. Embellish and fuse flat. Glue on the metal clip. Make 3 Night Lights.

Garden Buddies – Level 2

Make 2 critters.  Choose bugs, birds, floral approximately 3” x 4”.  Attach to old silverware or skewers (included) to display in pots, planters, etc.  Fused flat.

Holiday Ornaments – Level 2

Make up to 4 ornaments.  Choose designs and embellish with frit, noodles and hanger.  Fuse flat. 

Holiday 7” Plate – Level 2

Choose designs, cut out shapes and embellish on a clear base.  Fused flat and slumped in a mold. 

 

Jewelry – Level 2

Make one pair of earrings and 2 cabochons/pendants. Choose a color base, embellishments, and top with clear. Flat fused

Picture Frame – Level 2

Create a 4” x 6” picture frame using a clear base and color of your choice along with embellishments. Flat fuse.

Flower/Cactus 7” Plate – Level 2

Choose a floral or cactus design, cutout shapes and embellish on a clear base. Fused flat and slumped in a mold.

Slurry Bowl – Level 2                          

On an 8” square clear base, make a slurry with 3 or 4 powder frit colors.  Apply to the base and swirl them into amazing combinations.  Fused flat, then slumped into the Cyclone mold.

Wildflower Plate or Plaque – Level 2
Create a field of wildflowers on your choice of an 8” square plate or a 6” x 10” plaque pre-fused blue and green base. Using assorted colors of glass scraps, frit, stringers, noodles and vitrograph. Fused flat. The 8” square will be slumped in a mold. The 6×10 will remain flat to display on your stand.

Wave Candle Screen – Level 2

Design a scene of your choice on a 7” x 13” clear blank.  Fuse flat then slump on a S shape mold.

Level 2.5

Level 2.5 classes require one Level 2 class in the same category prior to registering.

Basket Weave 8” Square Dish – Level 2.5

Learn to use the “Glass Shop” strip cutter.  On a clear base and choose 2 accent colors for the strips.  Fused flat, then slumped in a mold.  

Coral Bowl – Level 2.5

Create a free form bowl up to 8” in diameter by arranging strips or irregular shapes of glass, noodles or frit.  Fuse flat, then drape or slump on a mold of your choice. 

Level 3

Level 3 fusing classes require four Level 2 classes in the same fusing category prior to registering.

Abstract Plate – Level 3

Cut your clear base to fit your choice of mold shape up to 7” diameter, design with strips and abstract shapes with assorted colors of glass and embellishments. Flat fused and slumped in a mold.

For The Love Of Hearts – Level 3

Choose your heart mold, cut your clear base, and design.  Use of glass saw.  Bring your lunch.  We will break for lunch.  Fused flat, then slumped in mold.

Swirl Glass 10” Round Plate – Level 3

Learn to cut a 10” clear circle, cut the swirl glass into strips, and a contrast color for bookends.  Fused flat and slumped in a mold.

3-D Flower – Level 3

Make one 3-D flower and 2 leaves. Flat fused, then slumped in mold.  2nd day learn to drill a hole in glass if needed, attach stem and leaves.  Vase or pot not provided.

A minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 students per class.  

Mosaic Classes

Class fees for Mosaics classes are for instruction only. A list of supplies the student needs to provide will be available upon registration and is also available at the club for purchase.

Level 1

Level 1 classes are for any beginner. No experience is necessary.

Beginning Mosaic – Level 1

This 2 week class teaches the basics of mosaic on a flat surface.  You will mosaic on your choice of tray, plate, stepping stone, anything flat, and design of your choice.  Be creative using glass, tiles, buttons, jewelry, whatever your heart desires.  Surface preparation, adhesives, design suggestions, grouting and sealants will be covered.  No prior experience needed. Grout provided.

Level 2

Level 2 classes require the Basic Level 1 class in the same category prior to registering.

Garden Post – Level 2

This 2 week class is using a variety of items to design a 4 sided, 4”x4”x48” PVC fence post sleeve with cap.

Steer Skull – Level 2

This 2 week class will design and decorate a steer skull.  Choose your materials (glass, jewelry, beads, shells, leather, etc.)

A minimum of 4 students and maximum of 8 per class. There will be homework each week to prepare for the next class.

Stained Glass Classes - Foil

Class fees for Foil classes are for instruction only. A list of supplies the student needs to provide will be available upon registration and is also available at the club for purchase.

Some classes require the purchase of a kit.

Level 1

Level 1 classes are for any beginner. No experience is necessary.

Beginning Foil Construction – Level 1

This 3 week class teaches construction with copper foil.  2 projects will be made – a wall light insert and up to a 12” x 12” panel.  Pattern preparation, cutting glass, soldering and all steps from beginning to end in constructing a stained glass flat panel.  Patterns provided.

Level 2

Level 2 classes require the Basic Level 1 class in the same category prior to registering.

Soldering Clinic – Level 2

Work on your soldering skills. Having trouble? Not pleased with your end result? Bring a foiled project to solder in class. We will cover the basics of soldering and check your iron and tip. Individual help with hints to smoother, neater soldering seams.

Abstract Garden Art – Level 2

With Dan Berquist. Construct an 8” x 18” copper rod frame and design abstract glass pieces and multi media items into a one of a kind piece of art to display in your planters or garden. This is a great project to use up your glass scraps. Frame extra.

Bevel Hearts – Level 2
Make a suncatcher heart with a 2” bevel and an ornament with a 1 1⁄2” bevel. Bevels provided. Student brings your choice of glass colors.

Intermediate Foil – Level 2

A follow on class after the Beginning Foil class. Make a circle or oval panel and learn how to embellish your piece with wire details, overlays and other ways to finish the edges. Pattern and wire provided.

Luminaria – Level 3

Make a candle house using a pvc pipe. A taste of Tiffany style lamp mold construction. The second class is in 2 weeks to allow extra time to cut and foil many pieces. Pattern, mold and tacky wax provided.

Picture Frame – Level 2

Construct a 5” x 7” picture in foil. Embellish as you choose. Easel back and frame provided.

Square Tissue Box Cover – Level 2

Construct an approximately 5” square x 6” tall square box to cover your tissues using the foil method. Your choice of design and colors. First class will be designing your pattern, glass selection, instruction for homework, soldering the panels together. Second class will be constructing the box and finishing.

Stepping Stone In A Mold – Level 2

Make a 14” round or a 16” hexagon stepping stone in a mold.  Experience in cutting glass and pattern preparation is required.  You will have homework to prepare for second class.  The 2nd class we will be placing your glass design into the mold and pouring concrete on Top.  (Like a pineapple upside down cake).  Two days later, unmold and clean the stone.  Molds and Concrete are provided. This class is not foil construction.

Working With Bevels – Level 2

Using bevels in your next project adds embellishment with rectangles, squares circles or diamonds, making borders or focal pieces in your panel design. Want to make a sidelight or transom using bevel clusters? This class is for you. Instruction and help incorporating bevels into your design.

Level 3

Level 3 Foil classes require two Level 2 classes in the same category prior to registering.

3-D Angel – Level 3

This 2 week class teaches you to make a free standing 3-D angel.  Pattern and parts kit provided.  Student provides glass.

Box with Hinged Lid – Level 3

This 2 week class teaches how to construct a box with a hinged lid.  The box will be made with glass of your choice, and the lid is a wheel engraved clear bevel.  The hinge will be constructed with a brass tube and wire.

Kaleidoscopes – Level 3

This 2 week class will be using a kit, which includes a pattern, surface mirror, and hardware needed to build one kaleidoscope.  Foil construction. Accomplished soldering is a must.

Panel Lamp Shade – Level 3

Construct a 4 or 6 panel lamp shade with foil construction. Your choice or pattern and size. Student provides glass, vase cap and lamp base.

Triangle Accent Lamp – Level 3

This 2 week class constructs a 3 sided panel lamp with a wood base and electrical socket.  Foil construction.  Many patterns to choose from. Accomplished glass cutting and soldering is a must.

Multi Media Circle Panel – Level 3

This class is for advanced students. Accomplished design, foiling and soldering is a must. Choose size of circle (hanging or in a stand), items to incorporate into design. First class will be designing pattern, second class will be soldering pieces together, third class will be framing and adding your 3-D items.

3-D Agave Plant – Level 3

Construct a 3-D agave plant using assorted scrap glass, using the foil method. First class will include pattern preparation, glass selection, cutting grinding. Homework is foiling and tinning your pieces. Second class will be soldering the pieces together. Display in your pot with a minimum opening of 4 ½” diameter.

Stained Glass Classes - Lead

Beginner Foil Construction Class is a prerequisite to taking any of the Lead Classes.

Class fees for Lead classes are for instruction only. A list of supplies the student needs to provide will be available upon registration and is also available at the club for purchase.

Basic Lead – Level 2

Learn construction with lead came. The project is an 11” x 17” panel. Prior experience in pattern preparation and cutting glass is required. Lead and zinc frame, glass and tools availablefor purchase. Pattern and lead board provided.

Lead Construction with a Bevel Cluster – Level 3

This 3 week class teaches how to incorporate a bevel cluster into your panel.  Choose a cluster, size and design. Basic Lead Construction is a prerequisite.

A minimum of 4 students and maximum of 8 per class. There will be homework each week to prepare for the next class.

Activities

New Member Orientation – Meet and greet, orientation for new members. Join the club and sign up for classes.

Workshops – These workshops are the perfect opportunity to finish a project left over from a class. Take advantage of these times to come work on your project and meet other members. An instructor will be on hand to provide help, advise, or discuss your next project.  There is no charge for these sessions.  Drop in or stay the entire time.  No registration necessary.

Saw Training – Take advantage of training on the different kinds of saws the club has for member use.  Several glass saws, belt sander, bevel grinder, and metal saw.  They have locks on them, so training is required to possess the code to open them.  No charge.  No registration necessary.

Membership to the Glass Art Club of Saddlebrooke is required to participate in classes and activities provided.

Payment of your class fee holds your place. 

Students provide their own hand tools.  Rental/Loaner kits are available for the Beginner Foil Class.

Class fees for Mosaics, Foil and Lead classes are for instruction only.  Some classes require a kit purchase.  A list of supplies the student needs to provide will be available upon registration.
