GLASS ART NEWS

Winter 2024

Happy New Year!  The Glass Art Club of Saddlebrooke is busy, busy, busy.  Our Monday and Thursday mornings have the Turquoise room filled to capacity with members attending classes and working on their own projects.  The Fusing team is firing almost every day to keep up with all the fusing projects members are making.

As of this writing, we have 83 current members.  To accommodate members better, we are adding Attended Open Studio time on Saturdays, 9 am to 12 noon.  The other 2 clubs can still use the room as before.  There will be at least 2 team members there to have the kiln room open, assist with projects, and sell from the supply closet.  This will begin on January 27th, and continue through February and March, as long as the need is there.

A reminder of our regular days and times.  Mondays – 8 am to 12 noon, Thursdays – 8 am to 4 pm.  Saturdays and Sundays are open to all 3 clubs that share our room.  Mondays and Thursdays 9 am to 12 noon the room is Attended.    This means that members of the Education/Fusing team will have the kiln room open, assist with projects and supply closet purchases.  Thursday afternoons are Open Studio – Unattended.  This means members can use the closet items [grinders, cutting surfaces, etc.] to work on their projects, but the kiln room and supplies are not available.

CLASSES

Our Winter classes are proving to be very popular.  The Basic Fusing, Basic Mosaic, and Fusing Night Lights classes are full.  We have added another Basic Fusing and Basic Mosaic class in April, plus a few more fun spring classes.  The popular Wildflower Plate – Fusing and the challenging Luminaria – Foil classes are offered again.  The most current schedule is attached.

FOR SALE

ELITE DL3000 – Diamond Tech Band Saw – comes with a recirculating water pump with filtration, adjustable speed motor, and target light.  Needs a new blade.  Wood and metal cutting blades are available for this saw.  Retail listed for over $600.  $150 or best offer.

We have 2 small used grinders for sale.  As well as used soldering irons, temp controllers, foiling machines, and hand tools at great prices.  Inquire with a team member if interested.

REMINDERS

Sign in on the clipboard hanging on the inside of the closet door every time you come in.  Put the date next to your name.

Always wear closed toe shoes and use safety glasses when using grinders and saws.

Patterns and books can be borrowed and taken to copy and bring back within 5 days.  Please check around your home, have you forgotten to return any?  We are missing many of our southwest books – especially Jennifer Cole’s.

The club maintains a supply closet with new tools, foil and chemicals.  We also have a selection of used tools and accessories at a very low cost.  Our non-fusing glass cabinet has a selection of many colors at great prices.  Check with us before you shop retailers.

We communicate with our members through email.  Please check your email – do we have your correct email?  Put our email address in your contact list.  This should help to keep them from going to junk or spam.  If you are signed up for a class – an email is sent out 3 to 5 days prior to class as a reminder and what you need to bring to class.  Please read the entire email and arrive for class at least 10 minutes early so that we may start on time.

Until next time,
